TERANG needs to find a four-leaf clover on its way to Tuesday pennant today.
Carol Cardwell agreed that her side has been extremely unlucky the past fortnight, with two winnable matches against lower-ranked sides abandoned due to the warm weather.
If Terang had played the pair of games and the results went as expected, the team would most likely be sitting in the Tuesday pennant top four.
“The weather hasn’t been kind to us,” Cardwell said.
“We were hoping to (make the top four) but it’s in the lap of the gods.
“We have been disappointed because we had a good idea that we would probably get in there but that’s the way it goes.”
To gain a finals berth, fifth-placed Terang needs to deal defending champion City Memorial Gold a shock loss today at Cramer Street in the last home-and-away round.
It is also hoping that fourth-ranked Port Fairy does not produce a clean sweep against City Memorial Blue.
“Hopefully we can have a win,” Cardwell said.
“We’ll need a lot of luck and a lot of good bowling.”
Cardwell plays third for Jean Fidge, with the rink also made up of Thelma Lackie (second) and Ros O’Keeffe (lead).
She said it had been difficult for Terang to build momentum this season.
“It’s been hard because we’ve had a lot of ladies who have been ill or passed away,” she said.
“But we’re lucky because we’ve got a few new bowlers and they’re shaping up all right.” Cardwell is in her sixth season at Terang Bowling Club, which comes after stints at Shepparton, Echuca and Yackandandah.
“I took up bowls when I finished working,” she said.
“I’ve always played sport and I think (playing bowls) is very good for you.
“So is the social side.
“Everyone is so friendly at Terang and it’s a wonderful club to be at.
“We all pitch in.”
In other division one matches today, Warrnambool Blue hosts City Memorial Green and Timboon takes on Warrnambool Gold.
