MARK Jacobsen and Nathan Bush continued their Warrnambool winning spree at the Des Notley Memorial Pairs Classic yesterday.
The victorious visitors were the only partnership to finish the two-day tournament at City Memorial Bowls Club undefeated, with six wins and 82 shots up.
Jacobsen, of Moonee Ponds, told The Standard he was yet to lose a competition in the south-west city when paired with good friend Bush, of Geelong West.
“We haven’t lost a game together in Warrnambool,” he said.
“It’s quite amazing.
“We’re coming back later in the year to defend the Autumn Classic at Warrnambool Bowls Club.”
The Commonwealth Games gold medallist added some star power at the annual memorial classic.
Not that the tournament needed it, according to Jacobsen.
“It was highly competitive and it was a quality field,” he said.
“The greens were quick and the weather was hot so we had to maintain concentration the whole time.”
Jacobsen said the key to success was not just related to skill.
“Nathan and I are great mates and we have been for about 15 years,” he said.
“We know each other and we understand how each other plays.”
The Moonee Ponds bowler will return to Premier League action in Melbourne this weekend.
But he will back in Warrnambool with Bush to contest the Autumn Classic and later for the May Racing Carnival. The Des Notley Memorial Pairs Classic attracted 34 teams. Event organiser Daryl Andrew said he was pleased with the result.
“We have had two very good days,” he said. “The standard of play was excellent.”
