COLAC teenager Meyrick Buchanan has been included in Victoria’s 12-man list for today’s Sheffield Shield encounter against South Australia but will be released on Friday to play in the Prime Minister’s XI against Sri Lanka.
Victoria’s depth will be tested for the Sheffield Shield clash with the Redbacks at Adelaide Oval.
The fourth-placed Bush-rangers can boast four players — another Colac export in Aaron Finch, David Hussey, Clint McKay and Matthew Wade — in Australia’s 14-man squad for its two Twenty20 matches against India in Sydney and Melbourne this week.
And Test pacemen Peter Siddle (rested) and James Pattinson (foot injury) are also unavailable.
Peter Handscomb, Ryan Carters and 20-year-old former AFL prospect Alex Keath have been recalled to a 12-man squad named yesterday to play the last-placed Redbacks.
Colac cricket export Buchanan, 18, has been included but will be given leave on Friday for the Prime Minister’s XI match against Sri Lanka at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.
“Everybody is really looking forward to getting back into it,” Victorian coach Greg Shipperd said.
“It’s a great opportunity for some of our younger players.”
Shield cricket resumes this week after a break of almost two months because of the domestic Twenty20 competition. AAP
