CRANBOURNE galloper With Danger confirmed his rating as a punter’s pin-up horse with another well-supported win at Terang in the Jim McKinnon 0-72 Handicap (1400m) yesterday.
After being allowed to settle behind the early leader Oblaque ($5.50, Anthony Darmanin) Ryan Moloney allowed the $2.60 favourite to cruise into the race after rounding the home turn.
Darmanin went for home on the home bend and left With Danger a bit flat-footed, but the five-year-old gelding cruised up to the leader halfway down the straight and bolted away to win by 2.3 lengths.
Oblaque did well to hang on for second, with Felt That ($8, Kate Walters) third just half a length ahead of the fast-finishing Miss Supernatural ($5.50, Jason Lyons).
Moloney said he thought the race was in his keeping before the field headed around the home turn.
“It was never in doubt. I thought it was just a matter of letting him go and when I did away he went,” he said.
“He’s definitely come good this preparation. He’s now put three wins together and deserves a chance in something better,” he said.
Cranbourne trainer Tony Logan had forecast a mid-week race in Melbourne with a good performance yesterday and his stable star has certainly earnt a start in better company.
Again the gelding was heavily backed — firming from $4 into $2.60 favourite late in betting.
With Danger started his current winning roll at Terang on February 15 defeating the well-credentialed Yokozuna before being sensationally backed from $9.50 to $5.50 and winning at Kyneton on March 2.
Yesterday’s other plunge horse finished at the other end of the field in the VOBIS bonus three-year-old maiden plate (1400m).
The Lloyd Williams-owned Peyton was rated a $31 chance in pre-race markets but started at $2.60 and finished last, beaten 16.6 lengths by the Bill Cerchi-trained Diamonds At Noon ($5).
Williams won the opening race yesterday, a 1600m maiden, with $1.60 favourite Rundle.
