WARRNAMBOOL will host three hurdle trials and a steeplechase trial today highlighted by the nomination of the Bill and Symond Wilde-trained jumper Key Symbol.
Key Symbol will be trying to find his best jumping after winning at Warrnambool and Casterton during July and August before failing to finish at Sandown on August 16.
The gelding has previously won on the flat at the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival and also taken out the Mortlake and Dunkeld cups.
He managed to win 10 of his 37 career starts.
Only three horses have been nominated for the steeplechase trial (2800m) scheduled for 11am today with Patrick Payne's handy hurdler Awakening Dream stepping up to take on the bigger fences with Peter Matthews' Tiger Grey and the Rhonda Mangan-trained Enclosed.
Fourteen horses have been nominated for the three hurdle trials over 2400 metres including the Darren Weir-trained Virvacity, a former Galleywood Hurdle winner and runner-up and Von Doussa victor.
Warrnambool Racing Club chief executive officer John Green said the trials were geared towards trainers having their horses 100 per cent ready for the May carnival.
"We've held one other trial day and another day for schooling so far," he said.
"These trials were scheduled for Hamilton but we've decided to keep them down here and create an opportunity for horses to trial through the paddocks."
Greene said rain last weekend had been almost perfect with an eye towards the May carnival.
"It was a little more rain than we wanted for our race meeting earlier in the week but it was a nice little start to preparation for May," he said.
"Everything is looking fine, we've got a lot of work to do but it's all coming along well," he said.
