TWO Warrnambool under 17 hockey players are heading to Malaysia and Singapore during the September school holidays representing Victoria Country.
Pirates centre-half John Webster and goalkeeper Aaron Kennett play in the men's competition as well as the Warrnambool under 17 division.
They will play against other Australian states and Asian countries on the tour.
Aaron's older brother Jamie previously went on an earlier tour. Aaron lives in Hamilton and travels to Warrnambool weekly to train and play.
Victorian Country hockey convenor Michael Nelson said selection was based upon performance at the Hockey Victoria Junior Country Championships.
"Competition to make this touring team is intense and those selected are justifiably proud of their selection," he said.
"Previously the tour has been based in Singapore with participation in the International Sixes Tournament a highlight. The 2009 tour is including Malaysia for the second year with most games being played in that country."
Nelson said the game schedule was busy with feature games including clashes against clubs and Malaysian junior state teams, the Malaysian schools champion and the Singapore national schools team.
"While on tour we will play games in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. A highlight of the tour will be visits to Cameron and Genting Highlands and the Singapore F1 Grand Prix.
"Participation in this tour is a unique opportunity which broadens the hockey and life experience of those young country hockey players.
"As part of their preparation for this tour the players complete an extensive skill and fitness program," he said.
