Mathew was been picked in the under 14 boys and Sammy in the under 13 girls and they will represent the Warrnambool and District Hockey Association.

The titles involve four metropolitan teams and the country team - Country Cobras - playing over seven days between June 29 and July 6.

This is Mathew's second year playing in the titles after making the team last year as an under 13 squad member while Sammy has been selected for the first time.

The Hamilton players travel the 100km to Warrnambool to play each Wednesday night in the under 14 competition before returning on Saturdays for under 17 games followed by senior matches in the afternoon.

WDHA president Chris Thompson said he found it frustrating that country juniors had to work so hard to make representative sides.

He said country players had to show much more commitment than their city counterparts to get a chance to play to the top level.

"Therefore I'm very impressed with our recent results at the senior country championships and hope the juniors taste similar success at the upcoming country and state championships," he said.

Thompson said some country players have been travelling up to 1600km a week to meet hockey commitments.

The under 14 country boys have had two practice matches and been undefeated while the under 13 girls have gained valuable experience in their practice matches.
