Terang Harness Racing Club cops a spray

13 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
TERANG Harness Racing Club guest Terry Mulder arrived bearing the perfect gift on Saturday night.

The member for Polwarth granted the club $17,900 to upgrade its track watering equipment, which was gratefully accepted by president Bruce Clarke.

Dalvui Raceway has relied on the same time-consuming truck, a former shire vehicle from Ballarat, to water the course for at least five years.

Terang club adviser Elizabeth Clarke said the new system would reduce the watering time between races by half.

"The funding will rejuvenate the spray system on the back of the truck," she told The Standard yesterday.

"We applied for the funding about two months ago and we are extremely grateful that we were successful.

"It will be most beneficial to the club."

Clarke said it was important to have up-to-date equipment to keep Terang's meetings at the highest standard possible.

"It's a boost financially and in the manner we manage the club," she said.

The club's marquee event, the Terang Pacing Cup, proved the sport still had plenty of supporters in the south-west, Clarke said.

"It was a very successful night.

"Weather played a detrimental role early in the day and we had a few cancellations. But the dining room was booked out.

"The racing was exceptionally good."

Terang's next meeting is on Tuesday, February 28.
