SUNSHINE golfer Stephanie Robinson was radiant after collecting her fourth consecutive piece of shiny silverware at the junior open championship in Warrnambool yesterday.
After sitting one shot off the pace behind Heathcote's Britney Mueck on the opening day, the 17-year-old charged home for victory at the two-day, 36-hole stroke event.
Teeing off with a handicap of three, Stephanie won the second day by six shots to claim the open scratch division with a score of 77-80-157.
The competition doubled as the Corangamite Girls' Championship.
"It was tough out there," Robinson said.
"The greens were a lot quicker (on the second day).
"There is a lot of tea tree and if you get stuck in there you're dead.
"You just have to keep the ball straight and think about it."
Stephanie said she was not fazed by her performance in the first round.
She said the result came down to who cracked under the pressure in the final 18 holes.
"I wasn't too confident but I was more thinking about my own game than scores," she said.
"I focused on placing shots and dropping putts.
"It was out of Britney and I and we were both waiting for someone to make a mistake."
More than 100 young players from across Victoria and Tasmania attended the tournament at Warrnambool Golf Course.
Competitors enjoyed perfect conditions on both days, with the fairways drenched in sunlight yesterday.
Camperdown golfer Tyran Dowell has his sights on country week selection after collecting the 36-hole 18 boys' scratch event ? which also doubled as the Corangamite Boys' Championship.
The 17-year-old improved five shots from the opening day to finish with a score of 149.
"I played all right but a few holes were a bit iffy," he said.
Tyran struggled on the eight and ninth holes on Monday, taking three putts on both occasions.
However, he made up ground on his favourite sixteenth green.
"I played a bit more safe," he said.
In other sections, Bendigo's Lauren Miatke won the open girls' handicap (75-81-156) on countback, Cobden's Matt Hinkley took out the open boys' scratch (71-75-146) and Port Fairy's Dylan O'Keefe won the 18 to 20-year-old handicap (73-72-145).
