WARRNAMBOOL golf export Marc Leishman has finished just outside the top 50 in his opening tournament of 2012.
Leishman contested the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego, finishing tied for 52nd in the $US6 million event.
The 28-year-old carded a three-under-par 285 at the tournament after a disappointing final round in which he finished two-over-par 74.
The final round at Torrey Pines South Course included five bogeys, while he also sunk three birdies.
The tournament was taken out by American Brandt Snedeker, who won a sudden-death play-off against compatriot Kyle Stanley.
The latter held a three-shot lead before the par-five 18th but triple-bogeyed to force the play-off, with both players finishing the 72 holes at 16 under.
Leishman’s next tournament on the US PGA Tour is this week’s Phoenix Open in Arizona, which will be followed by a week off.
