Awake to the possibilities - Leishman six shots adrift

MARC Leishman hopes a good night's sleep will have him primed for today's second round of the Australian Masters after an opening day which he described as frustrating.

The Warrnambool golfer believed arriving in Australia on Sunday morning after his rookie year on the US PGA Tour took its toll at Kingston Heath yesterday.

"I'm still pretty tired from the flight," he admitted yesterday.

"I had a dinner for the Masters on Tuesday, which was a late night, then I had a five o'clock start the next morning.

"The jet lag is kicking in a bit. I should be fine (today) though."

He said yesterday he planned to have a relaxing afternoon and get an early night ahead of today's second round of the Masters.

While South African Branden Grace and Newcastle's James Nitties share the lead of the $1.5 million tournament with Woods on six under, Leishman enters today tied for 44th, after firing an even par 72 yesterday.

"I bogeyed the first hole but apart from that, it was a fairly good start," the 26-year-old said.

Leishman was minus three after 10 holes, placing him one stroke off the lead at the time.

"I didn't have the best finish," he conceded.

"I didn't hole any putts. I felt like I putted well but I wasn't matching the speed with the line.

"I kept hitting the edges of the hole and they weren't going in. It was frustrating."

Starting on the back nine, Leishman ? who believed the course would get firmer and faster? was two under after nine holes and then birdied the par-five first hole.

Bogeys on the par four third, fifth and seventh holes derailed his round .

"I'm a bit behind the eight ball but it wasn't a disaster," he said.

"Hopefully I have a good second round."

Former Masters champion, Colac's Craig Spence, also fired a level-par 72.
