NARINGAL’S Brenton Andreoli has collected two tickets to the national Federation of International Sport, Aerobics and Fitness (FISAF) championship in September.
In his first appearance at senior level, the 17-year-old competed in the singles and mixed pairs events at the state titles in Melbourne on the weekend.
He came a narrow second in the individual category but claimed first place with partner Emily Daniels, of Jan Juc, in the duos.
However, Andreoli was confused by the results.
“I did the best routine I’ve ever done,” he said of his singles performance.
“Everything seemed to happen right. I was really confident going off the stage.”
While the Emmanuel College pupil did not watch winner Cameron Brown’s routine and has not seen the score cards, he believes points must have been tight between first and second.
“I think it was really close,” he said. “But I heard his choreography was better.”
Andreoli said he would perfect his two-minute routine before the national competition in Sydney.
“I’m just going to have to train harder, get fitter and upgrade my skills,” he said.
Despite feeling lethargic in the afternoon mixed pairs event, Andreoli and Daniels put together a state championship-winning routine on the weekend.
It was the first time they had performed the routine on stage. “It could have been a lot better,” Andreoli said.
“I had already done my singles and (Daniels) had done a singles and team event.
“We were pretty tired, we weren’t expecting much.”
The south-west teenager said there was also work to be done on his pairs routine.
“We will be changing around the choreography and improving our connection,” he said.
