Rooster won't fly the coop

DANNY Finn has hinted he will play for South Warrnambool next season despite failing to win reappointment as the club's coach.

For the past two years Finn led the Roosters on the field in a dual coaching role with Stephen Kelson.

The club opted to go for a one-coach format next season, appointing Nigel Kol to the role.

Finn told The Standard he was undecided about his future in the Hampden league. He said he would most likely play for South Warrnambool next season.

"I couldn't play against South so I will probably keep playing with South," he said.

''I've played pretty much all my career there and I have a few mates coming back to the region to play (next season).

"But I'm not too sure what I will do yet."

Finn will take an overseas break in January, after which he will make a firm decision about his football career.

He said he enjoyed his coach stint and did not rule out a return to the role.

"It was a fantastic experience. It gives you an insight into the heads of 42 blokes running around the field.

"I learnt more in the past two years than the 15 years prior.

"But next time I'd probably like to go (coaching) alone."

Finn was sidelined for most of last season. After not playing for eight weeks, an MRI in August uncovered ruptured ligaments, crushed bone, damaged tendons and a capsule injury.

At the time he said he didn't have to have surgery and expected it to take three months to heal.

He said he hoped his overseas break would freshen him up.

Roosters reserve coach Clayton Harrington also is undecided about his future. He said he would wait a few weeks before revealing his intentions for 2010.
