WARRNAMBOOL driver Tyler Owen kicks off another racing season this weekend at Adelaide with high hopes in the Aussie Racing Cars Super Series.
Owen, 18, will head to Adelaide mid-week to race at the Clipsal 500 with practice and qualifying today and racing tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
Aussie Racing Cars are virtually scaled down versions of V8 supercars.
"This is our second full season, the third season we've raced and we've now got the backing of Supercheap Auto Racing after finishing seventh in the series last year," the building apprentice said.
"Category director Phil Ward put together the deal which culminates with a test drive in a V8 supercar later in the year.
"This is the first round of the nine-round series and we're definitely looking at a top-three finish. I've got the same crew which includes my father Chris and Supercheap will be helping us out at the track."
Owen said the backing of Supercheap Racing put his campaign on a completely different footing this season.
"They've supplied a new body, we've got a new engine and the car has the same signwriting as the Supercheap V8," he said.
"This year we're looking at being very competitive - we're pretty hopeful," he said.
