WHILE most people would be discouraged by today’s predicted wet and wild weather for the grand final, Kolora-Noorat coach Ben Kenna doesn’t fit into that category.
“It’s going to make it low-scoring but I think it will be a positive for us,” he said.
“I just think the conditions we played in at Noorat that day were fairly poor but we won the game.”
Kenna is referring to round 12, when the Power dealt Dennington its only loss of the season.
“It’s probably an unusual thing only playing them once, particularly when you look at last year when we played them three times but that’s just the way it works out,” he said.
“(Round 12) was a while ago but we still beat them, so it probably gives us more of a psychological edge.
“They’ve been playing better footy since then and we’ve been playing better footy since then. It’s potentially going to be a different game.”
Despite only dropping three matches this season, Kenna described Kolora-Noorat’s season as “up and down”.
“I think we’ve gained momentum probably leading into the finals,” he said.
“We lost the first final but since then we’ve worked pretty hard.
“They’re the favourite I suppose, being up there all year and they’ve been able to blow sides out of the water compared to us.”
Kenna said Dennington would be fresher than the Power, who have lined up every week of finals.
“But we’re pretty conditioned and match-hardened because of the games we’ve played,” he said.
“We probably had a few players who needed three finals coming back into the side so it’s worked out well.”
The coach watched Dennington’s 67-point second semi-final defeat of Panmure
“I thought they were very swift with their ball movement and very precise,” he said.
“On the day I’m not sure if Panmure’s pressure was as good as it has been against us but they were still very good. We’ll need to apply pressure and I suppose, get them nervous.”
Kenna said the build-up to today’s game varied for his players.
“Different players didn’t play last year so obviously they’re pretty edgy and the ones who played last year know how special it is when you get the win,” he said.
