Match switch no joke

19 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
THERE is no joking about East Warrnambool and Deakin University’s bid to shift their round one Warrnambool and District Football Netball League (WDFNL) match to April Fools’ Day.

The Bombers and Sharks were initially scheduled to meet at Reid Oval on Saturday, April 7, as part of the opening round of the 2012 season.

But player unavailability has prompted the clubs to make a joint application to the league, requesting their match to be moved to the earlier timeslot of Sunday, April 1.

The league has conditionally agreed to the fixture alteration.

“It has to be signed off by both clubs and the ground booking has to be approved by city council,” WDFNL president Justin Balmer said.

“We’re hopeful that it goes ahead.

“It will be good for football.”

Balmer said the change should be confirmed at the league’s next executive meeting on February 1.
