INDICATIONS are that Koroit premiership youngster Ben Dobson is an excellent chance of getting game time in the Geelong VFL side this season after being picked for the side's last practice match.
The VFL Cats take on Collingwood at Gosch's paddock from 11am tomorrow with what the Geelong website claims is a strong side.
Dobson's Koroit teammate Brett Harrington has also been named for the practice match.
The Geelong team features a host of AFL listed players including Marcus Drum, Trent West, Ryan Gamble, Dawson Simpson, Nathan Djerrkura, Allen Christensen, Jeremy Laidler, Taylor Hunt, Adam Varcoe and Jesse Stringer.
Former South Warrnambool player James Hussey has also been named in the side.
Dobson, 20, said he hadn't been told much except that the VFL team officials were pleased with his progress.
"They just said I was going all right. I'm getting fit and they're happy enough," he said.
"You just have to plod along and see where it all goes. I went down there to start training three weeks before Christmas after getting a letter and a phone call. They asked me to come down and try out. It's been a good experience."
The quietly spoken Dobson played two seasons with the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup under 18 competition before being part of Koroit's premiership success last year.
He said yesterday he wasn't getting ahead of himself despite the opportunity for mature age rookies to be picked up in AFL drafts with the addition of Gold Coast and West Sydney in coming years.
"I suppose you never know what can happen. I'm fitting in all right and they're a good bunch of blokes. You have to take the opportunity," he said.
"I hope to get a few touches against Collingwood. If you get enough of the ball, you never know what could happen," he said.
