FORMER Hampden league representative Stephen Dickinson can't wait for the new football season to start.
The gun midfielder is excited at rejoining his home club Cobden after two years in Western Australia.
A burning desire to play in a premiership side is driving the 28-year-old's return to the Bombers.
His last game for the club was its 2007 grand final loss to Koroit. But grand final losses with North Fremantle in the WA Amateur League in 2008 and with Karratha Falcons in the North Pilbara Football League last season are fuelling his pre-season.
"I've played in four grand finals and haven't won any," he said, of his career which also included an unsuccessful under 16 grand final appearance.
"I'm just about ready."
The electrician, who only moved back to Victoria two weeks ago, is also ready for a return to day games. "It's all night footy," he said of last season in the Pilbara.
"You work all day and play footy straight after work. It was different, that's for sure."
He was working with 2000 others on a gas plant while playing with Karratha and a return to relaxing Saturday mornings before a game would be welcomed, Dickinson said.
"I've played all my footy at Cobden and it was a bit hard to go somewhere else," he said of his return to training this week.
"Just to get back home and play with all my mates ? I'm really looking forward to it."
He said a number of emerging youngsters meant he was unsure about where he would spend most of his time this season.
He said he had added playing at centre half-back to his resume while in WA but he would certainly get time in the midfield. Dickinson joins another interleague key position player Brendan Murfett in returning to Cobden this week.
Murfett, who also last played in the 2007 grand final, was overseas for the 2008-09 seasons.
Coach James Gellie was thrilled the talented pair would bolster the Bombers this season.
"It is good to get a couple of local boys back and they are quality players," he said.
"There will be a fair bit of responsibility on the boys. Obviously with Dicko playing in the west he will be ready to go, but Murf might be a bit rusty earlier, having not played for two years.
"It's been a real positive pre-season. The boys have put in a fair bit of work and are really committed."
The recruits will return to the Bombers colours in practice matches at home on March 20 and March 27 before the season opener against arch-rival Camperdown at Leura Oval on April 10.
