IT's a roller coaster-ride but rather than just taking a seat, you're in charge of steering.
The thrills of the Otway Odyssey await 22 Warrnambool Mountain Bike Club (WMTBC) members who will take to the track for the biggest mountain bike event in Victoria this weekend.
WMTBC president Darren Shiell said 22 was the most riders the club had sent to the race.
"Last year we had maybe 15 and the first year there were probably only five," he said.
"Each year we're gradually getting more and more."
Shiell said the club was formed a year after the Otway Odyssey and was keeping pace with the event's growth.
"This is the fourth year of the Odyssey and the third year of the club.
"More people are entering as the club grows," he said.
The challenging 100-kilometre Odyssey starts at Apollo Bay and finishes at Forrest while there is also a 50km Otway Shorty, which starts and finishes in Forrest.
"This is one of the events that people in the club work up to," Shiell said.
"Because it's so close to Warrnambool, people can get up there to practise.
"We had one training ride there in January.
"Our Brucknell ride two weeks ago was also a lead-up to it.
"Most of the 22 who are competing in the Otway Odyssey did it."
Timboon's Travis McMahon claimed overall male honours in the Brucknell Three Hour Enduro, with Shiell expecting him to perform well today in the 100km race.
The president also believed Belinda Hartwich, who was the top female at Brucknell, and Darren Harris looked promising ahead of the 50km event.
"Last year Belinda finished top-10 and she's done a lot of training for it this year," he said.
"We should also make special mention of Jeremy Sagnol, who is only eight.
"He's doing a 15km race which they put in for the first time last year for junior riders.
"It's good to see someone that young having a go," Shiell said.
WMTBC will have a tent set up today where club members and supporters will be based.
Club members will reminisce about the event next week with a barbecue.
