IF only Ashleigh Hocking was a year older.
After collecting two titles at the Victorian junior state cycling championship last month, the 12-year-old has nowhere to go.
National competitions only offer events for 13-year-olds.
So for now Ashleigh will continue practicing at Albert Park before the track season starts in October.
Two weekends ago the Warrnambool Primary School pupil contested the time trial and road race on the state stage in Wangaratta.
She topped the field in her first event, covering the eight kilometre distance in 14 minutes and 46 seconds.
The time was more than a minute less than her previous personal best and she reached impressive speeds of up to 33 kilometres per hour.
Ashleigh said she had a secret weapon in the time trial.
"I had a new bike," she said.
"It's bigger and has better wheels.
"I went off last so I had to try and catch the person in front of me.
"There were some corners in the course but that didn't matter."
The Camperdown Cycling Club member backed up her initial title with another win the following day.
She held her nerve in the 16km road race to return to the top platform on the podium.
"The course was mainly flat," she said.
"You just have to do two laps of the course.
"The hardest part was when people attacked."
Ashleigh cruised along in the pack and made her move with a hundred metres to go.
"I was saving my energy," she said.
"We just turned the corner and had to sprint the last couple of metres.
"It was pretty close, it was a photo finish."
The two under 13 state titles add to Ashleigh's growing collection of cycling honours after she won events at Eildon, Ararat, Castlemaine, Melbourne and Canberra earlier this year.
