SOUTH West Cricket's representative side has produced a massive upset, defeating the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association in a thrilling Melbourne Country Week match.
SWC overhauled the WDCA's 243 from 48.2 overs in the 51st over. Under country week rules, a side batting first which fails to bat its full 50 overs, has to add the remaining balls to its opponent's allocation.
Terang captain Ben Grinter made a match-winning half century.
The second heartbreaking result in two days for the WDCA leaves it now fighting to remain in division two.
Grassmere Cricket Association lost its opening match of Melbourne Country Week division four action. The GCA lost to Central Gippsland at Glenwaverley. Central Gippsland posted 7/269 before dismissing Grassmere for 226.
Earlier today, Warrnambool and District Cricket Association captain Ben Boyd has won his second consecutive coin toss and his side will bat first in today's crunch match against rival South West Cricket at Princes Park.
Day two of Melbourne Country Week will shape both the WDCA and SWC's chances for the week after both suffered surprise losses yesterday.
The WDCA has included Woodford's Nick Butters for his debutant, leaving out Wesley-CBC batsman Brad Pattison. Woodford's Hank Schlaghecke is the 12th-man bowler for the WDCA for the second consecutive day, while Brierly-Christ Church's Nathan Murphy is the 12th-man batsman.
SWC included Mortlake paceman Todd Robertson as the 12th-man bowler, while Mortlake's Josh Barr is the 12th-man batsman. Robertson was included in the 12 after Terang's Oliver Fitzpatrick was left out.
Hamilton District Cricket Association which defeated SWC yesterday is playing Kyabram District at Monash University but we have been unable to get a report in from that match yet.
In division four, Grassmere Cricket Association captain Chris Bant won the toss and elected to field in the match against Central Gippsland at Glen Waverley. The GCA has named Panmure batsman Tim Hunt as the 12th-man batsman and Yambuk's Rocky Miller the 12th-man bowler. Yambuk's Brian Wilson and Purnim's Tom Smith were left out of the 12.
