PANMURE opening batsman Timmy Hunt single-handedly decimated Wangoom on Saturday as he sprinted to a Grassmere Cricket Association (GCA) top score.
And the 21-year-old is not done yet.
Hunt was in perfect touch on the opening day of round 12 A grade action, belting an unbeaten 177.
He hit the rope 19 times and cleared the boundary twice in a display that more than doubled Wangoom’s total of 74.
“I was pretty lucky after I got to 100,” Hunt laughed.
“I got dropped a couple of times and they missed a run-out.
“We bowled really well early and then I was lucky enough to bat well.”
Jono Sullivan offered 26 with the bat for Wangoom before the visitor was ousted for 74 after 31 overs.
Panmure’s multiple wicket takers were Sam Mahony (3-20), Paddy Mahony (3-28) and Daniel Meade (2-14).
Hunt has since set up camp on the pitch and will continue to build on his 174-run partnership with Paddy Mahony (78 not out) when play resumes this weekend.
Panmure, captained by Chris Bant, is sitting comfortably at 2-288 after 40 overs.
“We will probably declare at some stage,” Hunt said.
“We might see how we’re going after 10 overs or so. But that’s Banty’s call.”
In other matches, Hawkesdale is in the early stages of its chase toward’s Grassmere’s total of 187.
Meerkat Ben Small top-scored with 65 on Saturday, with support from Ben Clark (26) and Derrick White (21).
The top bowlers from Hawkesdale were Lachie Glare (3-15) and Josh Julius (3-61).
After three overs, the Cats are sitting on 0-6.
Purnim has set the modest target of 3-156 for Mailors Flat.
Aaron Peterson (72) and Chris Smith (35) had a partnership of 87 runs for the Bulls’ second wicket.
Mailors Flat’s Greg Tory took 2-10 and Vesura Chinthaka collected 2-44.
The Jets are 1-41.
Yambuk climbed to 8-203 against Killarney on Saturday, with Steve Gleeson (64) and James McElgunn (28) enjoying a partnership of 63 for the second wicket.
Killarney’s Brayden Buchanan and Brett Halliwell took three wickets each.
In B grade action, Purnim’s Brad McLean belted 15 fours in his race to 97 against Hawkesale.
Purnim set 5-241, which was out of reach for Hawkesdale, which finished with 184.
John Robinson’s 103 pushed Mailors Flat to 8-203 but it was overtaken by Grassmere (3-280), with Tate Ashworth producing 112.
Wangoom’s 5-179 was passed by Panmure’s 4-212 and Killarney suffered a similar fate when its 7-172 was upstaged by Yambuk’s 6-192.
