WHILE Warrnambool narrowly missed out on gaining the 2012 Australian Country Cricket Championships, the city has been asked to host a Twenty20 Premier Cricket country round next year.
Warrnambool and District Cricket Association (WDCA) general manager Keith Ellerton said Geelong Cricket Club was wanting to play the shortened form of the match in Warrnambool on January 8.
"The game would be between Geelong and Camberwell Magpies," Ellerton said.
"There are still a lot of things that need to be sorted out because for our current draw for this season, it is suggested we would be playing on that day, so we would need to make alterations to that.
"They're also suggesting they want to play other games such as an under 18 game and/or an under 23 game."
Ellerton said the proposed matches would be discussed at a meeting tonight.
"We'll be having a link-up with Geelong Cricket Club to discuss it further," he said.
Geelong won the battle to host the 2012 national country championships, edging out Warrnambool and Cobram/Barooga.
"We've (had no feedback) whatsoever other than that they found all three submissions were of excellent quality," Ellerton said.
Meanwhile, Western Waves held its AGM on August 1, when it was confirmed that the Waves' Twenty20 Festival of Cricket would be played in Portland and Hamilton from November 25 to 27.
Kelvin White will continue as the Waves' president for the 12th successive year while Hamilton's Lloyd Ilett takes over as secretary from Ian Lewis.
White received the Malcolm Roberts award for outstanding services to region cricket, which was recognised at the meeting along with the pathway players of the year.
They included Grace Linke (under 14 girls), Tegan Kerrins (under 16 girls), Stephanie Townsend (under 18 girls), Zac Merrett (under 14 boys), Matthew Gunther (under 16 boys) and Cameron Williams (under 18 boys).
