THEY say two heads are better than one.
It's the approach which Brierly Christ Church Cricket Club is taking for the upcoming Warrnambool and District Cricket Association season.
The Bulls have promoted last season's players Andrew Cheeseman and Josh Squires to share the club's coaching duties for 2010-11.
Nathan Murphy was captain-coach for the past three seasons but stepped down at the end of 2009-10.
"We were looking outside the club first but when no one came forward, we decided we would give it a go," Cheeseman said.
"It's something that I always thought about doing but I never really thought about it too much."
Cheeseman, 26, opened the batting for Brierly last season.
He spent a few years at the helm of Lismore in the South West Cricket association almost a decade ago while all-rounder Squires has previously coached Colts at Dennington and has been a past captain of an under 21 representative side.
"I've always wanted to do it but I didn't think I was quite ready to do it on my own, which is why Cheesy and I are doing it together," Squires said.
"Murph is going to be staying around so I'm sure he'll help us out."
The new coaches plan to sit down in the next fortnight to discuss the playing group.
"I think at the moment we just need another solid batsman," Squires, 25, said.
"We've got the bowlers and we've also got some good young ones who have had a couple of years experience in the ones, so we should nearly be right."
Cheeseman said he had a couple of prospective recruits in mind.
"We'll be sitting down in the next couple of weeks and identifying areas we need to improve on," he said.
"We'll probably target some people after that."
The Bulls finished last season in sixth position with five wins and nine losses.
