Local teen cricket sensation Stephanie Townsend has been offered a rookie contract with the VicSpirit state side.
The exciting phone call from league representatives came on Friday night offering the youngster the job of a lifetime.
The 17-year-old cricketer said her past appearances in the state's under 13, 15 and 17 sides had seen her talent noticed.
"My performances over the last few years, especially last year, have stood out to the selectors," she said.
"[Rookies] will be emergencies and if someone can't play or isn't playing well enough we will get a go.
"It will mean a lot more travel, with training to start at the end of September.
"Under 18 training also starts later in the year and specialist clinics in August."
Townsend is the only country girl to be selected as one of five rookie players, the other four all from Melbourne.
"I have played with these girls before through the junior competitions which is great because I get along with them all really well," she said.
"I now have to perform well throughout the rest of the year at a club level to make sure I stay on."
The Women's National Cricket League side train Monday and Wednesday nights, but Townsend said she will only be travelling up to one.
"It will mean taking the day off, probably Wednesday, and travelling up to Melbourne for training from 6pm to 8pm," she said.
The teenage Brauer College student will have to juggle her cricket commitments as well as year 12 VCE studies.
"I have no idea how I will cover it all but hopefully the school will help," she said.
Townsend said she didn't have a favourite player but was looking forward to working with Jess Cameron and continuing her training with past VicSpirit batter Melanie Jones.
"Hopefully I will play with VicSpirit over the next few years and then maybe one day for Australia, it is always good to hope," she said
