Warrnambool Seahawks players can expect some home truths from coach Tim Gainey at tonight's training session as he eyes a quick kill in their semi final series on Saturday.
Gainey spent yesterday analysing footage of last Saturday night's two-point win over Melbourne University in game one of the Big V division one semi final series.
The Seahawks had led by as many as 15 points before being outscored by 13 points in the third period.
With the Seahawks facing Melbourne Uni on the road in possibly two games this weekend, Gainey said his focus was on his side.
"We let them back into the game through our mistakes," Gainey said.
He said his players would have to eliminate the costly errors, which would be addressed at training tonight.
The build up to the climax of the best-of-three semi-final series has been boosted with young gun Nathan Sobey available for both games, should the Seahawks need them.
Sobey, who is heading to America for a stint in college ranks, won't leave until after the weekend's action.
The exact timing will remain undetermined until the Seahawks fate is decided.
Gainey said he hoped Sobey might be able to postpone his flight until after the grand final series, should the Seahawks dispose of Melb Uni.
He is considering calling in favours in the US to delay Sobey's departure.
Sobey, who had a game-high 23 points last Saturday night, yesterday said he was looking forward to this weekend.
He said he was expected to fly out "next Saturday or Sunday" which meant he was likely to be available for game one of a grand final series.
Sobey said he would wait and see what happened this weekend, with his and the team's focus on defeating Melb Uni.
"I just want to play as good as I can and play for the team and get them there (into the grand final series)," he said.
"I want to do what I can and help them as much as I can and see what happens after that."
Sobey has been a key member of the Seahawks which have made the finals for the first time in three years, scoring 356 points at an average of 17.8 points a game, 6.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists from his 20 matches this season.
Gainey said he had tried to freshen up his players' legs at training on Tuesday night and expected to put a greater emphasis on skills and executing the game plan tonight.
