THROWING specialist Nathan Krepp didn't think his stellar form would force him into a kilt.
However, the Warrnambool athlete has taken an offer to compete at the Scotland Highland Games in his stride.
Nathan will proudly contest the traditional caber throw clad in a tartan skirt.
The special assignment is part of the eight-week Young Athletes Tour of Europe for six young Victorian athletes.
Nathan said is looking forward to the Scottish event and competitions in Paris and Austria.
"It's not all about athletics, it's about getting experience and having a good opportunity," he said.
"You can actually win a lot of money at the Highland Games as well."
Nathan jets to Europe after a top performance at the Australian Track and Field National Championships in Sydney.
The 15-year-old collected three silver medals in under 17s discus, hammer throw and shot put.
But he said a bronze medal in the under 20s discus was the highlight of the four-day competition.
"It was probably the biggest highlight because I was three years out of my age," Nathan said.
"I'm very small compared to them, they are a lot taller and muscular."
The decorated athlete also received a Victorian School Sports Award from Education Minister Bronwyn Pike on Friday.
Nathan was recognised for breaking 30 track and field records at school sport events, as well as selection into state and national squads.
Nathan put his achievements down to dedicated training and the ability to block out nerves.
"Sometimes I get really nervous and I don't perform my best," he said.
"But once I get more experience I will get further."
South-west athlete Hein Reimert claimed silver in the 3000 metres at the national titles, while Sheridan Krause, Cheyenne Rohan and Ashley Ovens all performed well.
