A HEAD-ON smash involving three vehicles and seven people near Winchelsea left a 30-year-old woman trapped for two hours before she was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. A nine-year-old boy, who was in the same Holden Commodore, suffered facial injuries while a man aged about 45 suffered head, arm and back injuries. Both the boy and the man were taken to Geelong hospital in a serious condition. The man was in a satisfactory condition yesterday. Sergeant John Rowley, of Winchelsea police, said the crash happened about 8.50pm, one kilometre east of Winchelsea, when a green Ford utility heading towards Geelong veered onto the wrong side of the road and into the path of the Commodore. The ute, which was being driven by a 28-year-old man, then spun around, before colliding with a white Ford Falcon which was also travelling towards Colac. All seven people involved in the smash were from Colac, Sergeant Rowley said. It was unclear why the 28-year-old man driving the ute crossed the road but he escaped with minor lacerations. The three people in the third vehicle suffered minor injuries. State Emergency Service volunteers from Colac and Winchelsea worked for about two hours to free the female driver of the Commodore and Winchelsea CFA attended. Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the woman was still trapped at 10.30pm. "She had a severe lower leg injury," Mr Mullen said. "She had head injuries. She had multiple fractures (and) abdominal injuries. They put her into a coma so they could apply the tube for breathing," he saidA Geelong hospital spokeswoman said the woman remained in a critical condition yesterday afternoon. Bad weather prevented an air ambulance from landing at the scene , between Mount Pollock Road and Wainwrights Lane . Witnesses should contact police or Crime Stoppers.
