Keelan Mast, aged 12, has spent the past seven years putting together his collection of Dr Who books and comics, costumes, models, props and figurines.

His display will be one of the many exhibits featured at the WRAD Collecta-Bool fair this year, returning to Warrnambool at Easter with a new range of collections.

Keelan, who has even tinkered with a Dr Who stop-motion film using custom-made Lego pieces, has been a fan of the series for as long as he can remember and started collecting when he was five years old.

“My dad got me into Dr Who,” he said.

“I just like collecting and my focus is on Dr Who. I go to bookshops and all the antique shops.

“There’s a place called Gifts For The Geek in Melbourne where I found a Dalek helmet and remote-control Dalek.

“That’s my favourite collectable, but I’ve only used it once.”

Collecta-Bool will showcase rare private collections as a fund-raiser for not-for-profit organisation The Western Region Alcohol and Drug Centre (WRAD).

Event organiser for the WRAD Centre, Rick Bayne, said a variety of new exhibits were already confirmed.

“We hope to have a lot of variety with some old favourites mixed in with new exhibits,” he said.

“We are returning to the same venue which was very popular with both exhibitors and visitors last year.

“There’s 34 exhibits so far, which is the most we’ve had, but there’s a lot of area to fill up so more are always welcome.”

He said more than 35 individual collections would be on display, including 78rpm records, gramophones, football memorabilia, religious artefacts, miniatures, ginger beer bottles and pop-culture fandom.

Several popular exhibitions from previous Collecta-Bool events will also return, including movie posters, breweriana, swap cards, baskets and much more.

The event will be staged on Easter Sunday, April 8, at the Wannon Rooms.
