CAMPERDOWN'S reputation as a motoring mecca will be boosted this month when a convoy of wacky vehicles arrives as part of the latest fund-raising rally.
The 40 decorated vehicles are taking part in the Great Escape rally, raising money for cystic fibrosis research.
Their teams will spend two nights in Camperdown on Sunday, September 14 and Monday, September 15.
Cystic Fibrosis Australia marketing and events officer Janice Clarkson said the 10-day rally would start at Penrith and make its way along back roads to South Australia's Barossa Valley.
Four district cars are among the entries this year. Long-time entrants Steven and Kevin Bonner, of Camperdown, have signed up in the car Old Yella, along with Camperdown's Gordon Judd in the General Lee, Darren Jeffery, of Jancourt, in his Pirates-theme car and John Betts of Dreeite with a 000 tribute.
Mr Bonner, who has participated for the last six years, said it was the first time the rally had visited the southern part of Victoria.
Vehicles will be on display in Manifold Street from 6.30am until 9am before an official send-off on Tuesday.
