Unique teacher to visit

19 Jun, 2009 05:00 AM
IF you're in search of happiness - and who isn't? - then you might find the first steps towards it this weekend.

The Warrnambool Buddhist Group is hosting a visit from Geshe Doga, a Tibetan Buddhist teacher who is said to have a smile so brilliant that people become Buddhists and transform their lives simply by seeing it.

Group member Joanne Keith, who described herself as a student of Geshe Doga, said she was pleased south-west people would be able to hear him speak on inner peace and happiness tomorrow at Warrnambool's Regal Cafe{aac} function room.

"I have a lot of respect for him as a teacher," Ms Keith said.

Ms Keith, who underwent a Buddhist pilgrimage with Geshe Doga in India and Nepal, said the teacher had a unique way of giving people a "really good outline for happiness".

"The bottom line with everybody is we all want happiness - everywhere in the world it's the one thing everyone wants," she said.

"A lot of people think Buddhism is a religion, but it's more of a philosophy."

At 7.30pm Geshe Doga will talk about how happiness and sorrow depended on a state of mind.

He will then host an introduction to meditation on Sunday from 10am at the Hopkins River Homestead in Allansford.

Warrnambool will also host some visiting Buddhist monks before the end of the month who will work on a mandala at Gateway Plaza.
