VANDALS left a trail of destruction in Warrnambool on Saturday night at a district football club.
The rear passenger windows of four cars parked outside the Russells Creek Football Netball Club, including a brand new Nissan Navara, were smashed.
Another car, parked outside the train station, was stolen before being torched and dumped near Warrnambool College.
City police believe the crimes were alcohol-fuelled.
"There is a good chance alcohol was involved. These were all random acts with no reason behind them," Senior Constable Brooke Pollock said.
Russells Creek Football Netball Club held its annual $2000 draw Saturday night, with about 200 people in attendance.
The damaged cars were all relatively new, Senior Constable Pollock said. "At this stage nothing appears to be stolen from them, it's just the damage."
The final damage bill is unknown, but it is expected to run into thousands of dollars.
Last week The Standard revealed vandalism cost Warrnambool City Council $65,611 in 2008-09.
Mayor Michael Neoh has called for a centralised fund to be established through the courts for convicted vandals, who he said should contribute 10 to 20 per cent of their fines.
"As well as being fined and having to pay for their repair costs they should contribute to a centralised funding pool to ease the financial contribution from ratepayers," Cr Neoh said.
People with information about the car attacks should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Warrnambool police.
