WEST Warrnambool's notorious "Stonehenge" building has been revived by a new antique enterprise.
Once an unpopular eyesore, the long bluestone structure now accommodates Boulderwood Antiques Collectables Giftware.
The building has endured a troublesome 25 years while owner and designer Ian Anderson struggled to complete his unique project.
It was labelled 'Stonehenge' after the Warrnambool City Council spent years trying to encourage the television technician to finish the job.
However, Boulderwood co-manager Simon Kemper said the building was perfect for his new business venture, which opened five weeks ago.
"The building is ideal. It was like Ian Anderson had us in mind when he designed the building 25 years ago," he said.
"It just suits us down to the ground." Mr Kemper said the mystery surrounding the unusual structure had compelled many locals into the store.
"We have a lot of locals come in to have a look at the building ? we get a lot of passing trade," he said.
"Most people are blown away by the ceiling.
"Ian (Anderson) was really happy that we didn't want to knock any of the walls down."
Boulderwood has lured 16 local dealers to rent a space in the centre.
Sale items in the revamped centre have been arranged to complement the original interior.
The retro carpet, "fishbone" walls, and Cyprus timber ceiling all tie in to the antique and collectable theme perfectly.
"The design just lends itself to accommodate what we have here," Mr Kemper explained.
"Ian (Anderson) was really happy that we didn't want to knock any of the walls down."
Items available range from Australiana, furniture, china and dolls, to vintage fashion, jewellery, records and books.
"It is a real eclectic mix, from old antiques to brand new products," he said.
"We have all types of people come in - from the weird and wonderful to the straight laced."
Boulderwood is open seven days a week from 9:30am to 5:30pm.
