Pussy's bow is a winner's ribbon

THE claws were out but it was all in good fun as pretty kitties and their proud owners competed for glory at Warrnambool's cat and kitten championship show.

More than 40 exhibitors and 100 felines from across Victoria took part in the 14th annual event to find the best cat in show.

Liz Parker's precious pet Angahar Child in Time took out the day's top honours, named best of breed and best short-hair in show.

Named after a Deep Purple song, the British short-hair was continuing a long family tradition of winning at championships.

Ms Parker, who breeds British short-hairs, said both Angahar Child in Time's mother and father did very well in shows.

"It's wonderful. She's done very well," Ms Parker said.

Also making it on to the winner's podium yesterday was Gemara Whisky - a cream and white exotic owned by Geelong's Margaret van Berendonk - which was named best long-hair in show.

The pampered kitties looked content as they were lavished with love by enthusiasts of all ages. "They are just easy to get along with," Ms Parker said of the feline companions.

"They've got so much love and affection. They know when you're feeling down and always come over for a snuggle. And you don't have to take cats for a walk."
