WARRNAMBOOL police are tight lipped about the possible cause of a fire at Illowa yesterday evening.
Detective Sergeant Lee Porter, of the Warrnambool police Crime Investigation Unit, confirmed police were investigating another fire which may or may not be linked to nine other blazes in the Koroit/Grassmere district during January.
Yesterday evening's fire was reported to emergency services on the edge of Tower Hill-Yangery Road about 500 metres west of Conns Lane at 5.30pm.
The fire appeared to start on the side of the road near a property owned by former Northern District premiership footballer Jamie Darmody.
Six Country Fire Authority units quickly brought the fire under control.
"Police and CFA units attended another fire at 5.30pm on Sunday evening. This fire is currently being treated as suspicious in nature," Detective Sergeant Porter said.
"The fire on Sunday night may or may not be connected with recent fires in the area and Warrnambool police Crime Investigation Unit, in partnership with Victoria Police arson and explosive squad detectives and CFA investigators, are continuing to investigate a series of fires in the Warrnambool and Moyne shires which at this time have all been deemed suspicious in nature.
"Investigations are ongoing and police are appealing to the public for any information regarding these fires, or suspicious behaviour in the area of the fires, which can be passed on to Victoria Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," he said.
