SUB-CONTRACTORS have boycotted extensions to the Warrnambool airport terminal, claiming they are owed tens of thousands of dollars for their work.
The Standard understands that at least three Warrnambool and district companies are awaiting payment for the $400,000 project.
One operator said he had been waiting more than five months for payment from the main contractor, ACS Devco. "We have told them we won't go back until we are paid," the sub-contractor said.
Warrnambool City Council staff will meet company representatives this week to discuss the issue.
"The council is aware of the disputes between the contractor and sub-contractors and will meet with ACS Devco to discuss payments and finalisation of the project," acting director of physical services Peter Robertson said on Friday.
"Council will endeavour to work with the contractor to ensure subcontractors are paid, but essentially this is a contractual matter between ACS Devco and sub-contractors.
"Council has made all payments to the contractor required at this stage in the project."
Work was halted last month for several weeks with the company telling the council there was a delay in a materials shipment from Western Australia.
The concrete slab, wall frame, roof trusses and cladding are complete, but it is yet to be fitted out.
When complete the new terminal building will have more seating for waiting passengers and meet security and safety requirements.
