LITTLE Anna Wilson will wave goodbye to her mother Alison this morning - her crayons, ruler and lunch box zipped into her big blue backpack, all set for a new world of classrooms and playgrounds.
The five-year-old prep pupil joins about 2500 children in the south-west embarking on their first day at school.
Mrs Wilson said her daughter was eager to start her first year of schooling at St Joseph's Primary School in Warrnambool.
"She's not nervous at all- she's quite keen to start school," the mother-of-three said.
"Anna has a friend from last year at Warrnambool Central Kinder so she will have someone in the classroom that she knows.
"My eldest son Luke was frightened about starting school to start off with but he got over that and he enjoys it now."
Mrs Wilson said she had been busy over the past few weeks preparing for Anna's first day, buying a uniform, school bag and all the other necessary classroom equipment.
"It will be nice to have more free time," she said. "I only have one son at home now so there will be less fighting between the three of them."
