Nockles looks for Wannon success

09 Jul, 2009 04:00 AM
A FORMER Howard government adviser is hoping to win Liberal Party pre-selection in Wannon.

Rod Nockles, who unsuccessfully stood for party pre-selection in the neighbouring seat of Corangamite, is hoping he will have more luck in Wannon, the seat David Hawker will vacate at the next election after 26 years in the post.

Mr Nockles, an internet expert, announced his intention to run in Wannon after losing the Corangamite preselection ballot to former journalist Sarah Henderson last month.

The number of Wannon Liberal contenders now stands at six with policy adviser Louise Staley, Corangamite councillor Matt Makin, Southern Grampians councillor Katrina Rainsford, farm policy adviser Simon Price and Southern Grampians tourism manager Hugh Koch all indicating they were standing.

"I'd be honoured to represent the people of Wannon in Federal Parliament," Mr Nockles said.
