There's nothing like barbed-wire barriers, armed guards - like the imposing Lance Corporal Warrick Petering (pictured) - and camouflaged tents to create a distinctive military look. The usually peaceful looking Army Reserve barracks on Warrnambool's Pertobe Road have taken on a more active vibe in the past fortnight, thanks to a junior leadership course. About 20 reservists from regional Victoria and Melbourne have been participating in a variety of drills and military scenarios and sleeping in army tents. Corporal Grant Bennett said the course was for members of the 8/7 RVR and 5/6 RVR infantry units. The Army Reserve has almost 3000 members in Victoria and more than 17,000 nationally. Warrnambool members have Tuesday night parades and other weekend training sessions. "Every skill stream that's in the main army is in the reserve," Cpl Bennett said. 100209GW27 GLEN WATSON
