An 18-year-old Purnim district woman was heading south along the highway when the wheels of her car began to skid due to a rough road shoulder. Another car containing a Mortlake district couple in their late 60s was heading north and the two cars collided before 11am Saturday.
One of the cars ended up on its roof.
The Mortlake man managed to free his wife and the probationary driver who were stuck in their respective cars.
All three people were taken to Warrnambool Base Hospital for treatment with the teenage woman treated for head lacerations, according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesman.
Terang policewoman Senior Constable Tanya Cook said the occupants of both vehicles were fortunate that the accident did not result in life-threatening injuries.
She said the accident did not disrupt traffic along the highway with both cars rolling over to the adjacent road reserve.
“Long weekends are always a time when more traffic is present on south-west roads so we encourage all drivers to keep safe wherever they travel,” Senior Constable Cook said.
