A FORMER television host, a funeral home magnate and the state's chief farming representative are among a roll-call of would-be Liberal Party candidates for Corangamite.At least five people have put up their hands to represent the Liberal Party in the swinging seat at the next federal election which is expected to be held next year. A federal election can be held no later than April 2011.Labor's Darren Cheeseman won Corangamite in the last federal election from veteran MP Stewart McArthur who held the previously safe blue-ribbon Liberal seat for 24 years.Former 7.30 Report host Sarah Henderson has announced her nomination following in the political footsteps of her mother, the late Ann Henderson, a minister in the Kennett Government during the 1990s.Victorian Farmers Federation president Simon Ramsay is also understood to have nominated. Mr Ramsay said he could not comment on the pre-selection process at this stage due to his incumbency as VFF president.Former Stewart McArthur policy adviser Simon Price also confirmed he would stand for pre-selection. Mr Price was a policy adviser for the VFF for six years and is based in Swans Marsh. Another prospective candidate is Geelong businessman and owner of Kings Australia funeral services, Michael King.Internet expert and former Howard government adviser Rod Nockles has also indicated that he wants to represent the Liberal Party in Corangamite. ALP preselection for the seat is expected to nominate Darren Cheeseman unopposed following his success in securing the seat after 73 years of conservative control. Preselection for the Wannon branch of the Liberal Party is expected to be held in June. It is not known whether there will be any challengers to David Hawker who has held the seat since 1983. Preselection of the Wannon branch of the Australian Labor Party has yet to be confirmed. Robert McAlpine, who was a Labor candidate in the 2004 federal election, said he wouldn't stand. ALP 2007 federal election candidate Antony Moore could not be contacted yesterday.
