Jumps racing banned

27 Nov, 2009 11:56 AM
WARRNAMBOOL'S 2010 May Racing Carnival will be the last as we know it.

Racing Victoria today announced jumps racing would be banned at the end of the 2010 season and a series of high-weight races programed for 2011 as a transition for jumps jockeys and horses.

Racing Victoria board chairman Michael Duffy made the announcement at a media conference a short time ago.

Well, if they can;t save it now lets make the last one a BIGGY! Bring on the formal dinner, the after party and the farewell concert in the middle.

Unbelievable.... As owner of a succesful jumps horses Im at a loss as to what to do know with him. What do the animal libs say I do? Useless as a gelding... but brilliant jumper. They got their way but will now have blood on their hands

This is an absolutely disgraceful decision for the racing industry, and Warrnambool in particular. RVL has caved in completely to the do-gooders of this politically-correct nanny-state. Disgraceful !

The animal welfare lobby has won a hollow victory. The RVL Board have shown themselves to be gutless in the face of oppostion from people who could not care less about racing. Pope and co will probably continue to eat meat and sit back thinking how good they are. Disgrace

A victory for a barbaric practice. By saying it means more horses will die is a furphy. there won't be as many bred in this cruel industry to be flogged over a jump that it "loves" to do. A victory for horses and those who love them not they who profit from it. If there wasn't any money in horse racing, hardly anyone would do it. Greed is the loser here.

As an old Warrnambool boy I cannot believe that 2010 will be the last time for the Grand Annual carnival. Everything is so sanitised now. Well I'm living in Wagga now, and the Warrnambool Carnival usually clashes with the Wagga Cup, but in 2010, I'm coming home to say goodbye to a unique event. Did they stop and think what event this will have on the 'Bool?

Scott, that's the risk you've taken in investing in a sentient being. Speak to the animal libs and have your horse rehomed.

Shame, RVL, Shame...!!

I still can't believe this decision, has the world gone mad??? Why don't these animal libos put all their time and effort into a real problem. Life in May in w'bool will never be the same. I am sad for my children who will be too young to remember this wonderful event. Don't kid yourself, it will never be the same without the jumps, would be like christmas with no santa!!! I say we fight, we can't let this part of our history just die!!!!
