Gregory Michael Gallacher, 53, of Finks Road, Heathmere, yesterday, in the portland magisterates court, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.
Portland Magistrates Court heard he refused to stop drinking while at home on October 25 last year.
The court heard that the defendant's abusive behaviour towards family members prompting a call to police.
Gallacher was subsequently detained by officers, who seized a shotgun and ammunition in the process.
Two swords he received in 1975 after achieving a black belt martial arts ranking were also found and taken by police.
Defence counsel Paul Drew said his client considered the 45 and 70-centimetre swords purely ornamental and had never considered using them as weapons.
Gallacher had reconciled with his wife following a period of separation and deeply regretted the offences, he said.
Magistrate Ron Saines placed the 53-year old on a six-month good behaviour bond without conviction.
Mr Saines ordered Gallacher to pay $400 to the court fund.
The seized weapons will be destroyed.
