Indian TV tunes in to Shipwreck Coast

10 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
AN INDIAN television audience of 68 million is expected to take in the sights of the Shipwreck Coast region in May.

A team from CNN IBN India visited the region, staying overnight in Warrnambool and visiting Tower Hill, horses training on Lady Bay beach and taking in the iconic attractions of the Great Ocean Road. Shipwreck Coast marketing chief executive Carole Reid said China and India were two growth markets targeted by Tourism Victoria and Tourism Australia, and workshops would be held in the region to discuss the wants and needs of Indian tourists.

“They’re not the primary market for the Great Ocean Road but there has been a noticeable increase of Indian people over Christmas in the region,” she said.

“There is considerable investment going into the market. Some are visiting other family members or students and taking the Great Ocean Road.”

The tour is part of a Cricket Project media visit and coincides with the India-Australia cricket matches.

The program will air in India on May 15.
