HEARTLESS thieves who stole clothing from the Sungold Field Days fashion parade robbed much-needed funds from the Black Saturday bushfire appeal.Brazen thieves stole about $500 worth of clothing from the fashion parade stage yesterday morning. A percentage of the proceeds were intended for relief efforts in Gippsland and central Victoria. Fashion parade organiser and Country Impressions owner Jennie Nicholls said the theft was a sad comment on the community spirit of some people."They're not only stealing from me but they are stealing from the bushfire victims as well," she said."The country has come together over the past few weeks and helped out those in need but then this type of thing happens and ruins it."It is believed there were several witnesses to the theft from the stage at the Hillside marquee. Six items of clothing were stolen including rugby tops and designer shirts.Ms Nicholls said she reported the theft to security guards and appealed for witnesses to come forward."I've heard about looting by some people after the fire on the news and it makes you wonder what would possess someone to steal from those who have lost everything," she said."It's a bit sad that someone would lower themselves by taking goods. Hopefully their conscience gets the better of them and they hand the clothes back."Ms Nicholls had also organised a money tin and raffled a TV for the appeal.
