AN equal dose of luck and planning helped save a Koroit home from being destroyed by fire on Wednesday night.
Residents of the Jongebloed Court home escaped uninjured after a smoke alarm warned of a blaze that had taken hold in a bedroom about 10.30pm.
A quick response from firefighters from eight units across the region then curbed its spread just before it took hold in the commission home.
``It was pretty lucky actually, just another minute and it (the fire) was heading up into the roof space,'' Koroit Fire Brigade Second Lieutenant David Lumsden said.
``It was a good save by the fire brigades.''
Four firefighters donned breathing apparatus to douse the blaze before it spread from the bedroom.
An electric blanket is suspected to have triggered the fire.
Mr Lumsden said the positive outcome showed how important a working smoke alarm was.
``The last two fires we attended, one alarm didn't have batteries and the other was sitting on the bench waiting to go up,'' he said.
Units from Koroit, Warrnambool, Winslow and Woodford attended the scene.
