A WARRNAMBOOL district delivery driver who stole 10 iPhones has avoided a conviction after showing she suffered a depressive episode.
Susanne Jane King, 32, of Adrianna Crescent, Dennington, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to theft and obtaining property by deception.
She was placed on a 12-month community corrections order, has to do 60 hours’ community work and undergo programs for mental health issues.
King was employed by a Warrnambool business and on October 14 last year went to the airport to pick up a delivery which was to be transported to Hamilton. Part of that delivery was 10 Apple iPhones, which she kept separate from other goods and did not deliver.
Two days later King placed a SIM card in one of the telephones and used it. She sold another phone and was arrested on December 1 in possession of one of the phones after the theft was reported to police.
Eight of the phones were recovered at her home and the one sold was soon after handed in to police. The phones were valued at $700 each and King was ordered to pay restitution of $2800 with four of the phones being forfeited.
