IT might look like a battered old piece of furniture but as the centrepiece of a new community art project, this armchair is set to help residents reveal their hopes and dreams.
The chair will be restored and then placed in prominent places in Mortlake and district for people to take a seat and anonymously contribute their wishes, hopes and thoughts on pieces of paper which will form a special community exhibition.
Moyne regional arts development officer Jo Grant said the idea was inspired by Enid Blyton's 1937 novel Lounge Around, which is about a magical wishing chair.
"The centrepiece of the project is the battered old armchair that was recently liberated from the dark confines of a dilapidated garage," she said.
"During this restoration period, participants will be encouraged to sit in the chair and respond to the process through writing, drawings and poetry when the chair 'travels' to their community."
The chair would be out in the community next month. Dunkeld artist Trevor Flinn is leading the project which is a partnership between Moyne Shire Council and the Terang and Mortlake Health Service.
"Over a number of months the chair will be repaired and transformed in a process that is sure to inspire all who come in contact with it."
