Warrnambool Cheese and Butter’s Sungold O’Frothy One cafe blend picked up an Australian Grand Dairy award in Melbourne on Wednesday night.

The win recognises the marketability of the milk, which was specifically developed for frothing and is favoured by cafe owners and baristas wanting extra froth on their cappuccinos.

Owner of Warrnambool’s Fishtales Cafe, Tamara Mahoney said the cafe used the milk in about half the coffee it sells each day.

“And we sell a lot of coffee,” she said.

“Having a product that is specifically designed to froth makes the barista’s job much easier and provides a consistent cup every time.

“And in seasonal times when the fat content in milk is low, it’s great to have a back-up to ensure we can still make a great cup of coffee,” she said.

Warrnambool Cheese and Butter consumer products marketing manager Richard Lange said the win was significant and showed that the hard work the company was putting into its quality was paying off.

“We have been working very hard to ensure that our milk can offer cafes a high quality product that froths easily and consistently,” Mr Lange said.

“There is a coffee machine in the factory and we are constantly testing all our milk for its frothing capabilities.”

Mr Lange said the company would use the award to grow the brand, as long as it didn’t compromise the quality.

“We use only the freshest milk, so we will grow as long as we can ensure that freshness is maintained.” He said a recent list of the top 100 cafes in Melbourne showed that many were using the Sungold blend.

“Our message is that cafes should not only look at selecting the best beans, but selecting a top-quality milk is just as important,” he said.
