Court: Man threatened Warrnambool woman with knife

23 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
A PASCOE Vale man has been remanded in custody after allegedly bashing a woman in Warrnambool at the weekend.

Milorad Mitrovic, 40, of Pearcey Grove, appeared in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court charged with recklessly causing injury, assault with a weapon, unlawful assault and breaching an intervention order.

He was remanded in custody until a contest mention in Warrnambool on March 27. He did not apply for bail.

On Saturday at 10.30pm Mr Mitrovic went to a Hopetoun Road address in Warrnambool and made a threat to a woman with a knife, punched her eight to 10 times to the head and made other threats.

That beached at intervention order that was put in place in late December last year at the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court.

Police alleged Mr Mitrovic also emailed the victim, made threats and assaulted her which breached the order.

The victim was unable to initially call police when Mr Mitrovic arrived because she didn't have a telephone but contacted the Warrnambool police on the accused's mobile phone when he went to sleep.

Mr Mitrovic is also on four lots of bail and failed to notify police he was going to Warrnambool, allegedly in breach of his bail conditions.

He also has a large number of charges pending including burglary, theft, causing criminal damage, possessing a controlled weapon and obtaining property by deception and is to appear in Preston on March 6.

Police are concerned Mr Mitrovic will continue to commit offences if released on bail.

Defence counsel Jonathan Makary said his client intended to plead not guilty to the more serious Warrnambool charges.

Mr Mitrovic is also allegedly in breach of an intensive corrections order, with 25 days in custody owing.
